Pops Mensah-Bonsu
Pops Mensah-Bonsu carved out a distinctive legacy in both college and professional basketball. The London native excelled at The George Washington University, leading the Colonials to NCAA Tournament appearances and earning various accolades, including an induction into the Hall of Fame. After going undrafted, he became the second player of Ghanaian descent in the NBA. His 10-year career spanned teams like the Spurs, Raptors, and Rockets, along with international stints. One of his most notable accomplishments is representing the British National Basketball Team in the 2012 Olympics.
Post-retirement, Pops joined the NBPA and later served as GM for the Capital City Go-Go, achieving a remarkable inaugural season. Currently, he's the President of Minor League Operations for the New York Knicks.
In 2018, Pops founded SEED Academy Ghana, a 501c3 organization based in Accra, Ghana and New York City. SEED focuses on empowering Ghanaian youth through the game of basketball, fostering life skills that lead to sustainable livelihoods and positive social impact and boasts over 1000 members. The foundation counts the Mastercard Foundation, BAL, NBPA and the University of Ghana as strategic partners.
